NEET UG 2026 Registration Live - Last Date, Exam Schedule and Key Instructions
Quick Summary
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially opened NEET UG 2026 registrations. The last date to register is 8 March 2026. The exam is scheduled for 3 May 2026. J&K students can apply under the 15% All India Quota (AIQ). This article covers eligibility, step-by-step application, fee, and a 60-day preparation strategy.

What is NEET UG 2026?

NEET UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate) is India's single national-level entrance examination for admission to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, and other AYUSH undergraduate medical courses. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health.

NEET UG is the gateway to over 1,08,940+ MBBS seats across government and private medical colleges in India, making it one of the most competitive exams in the country. For students from Jammu & Kashmir, NEET is especially significant as J&K students participate in both the All India Quota (AIQ) and state-level counselling.

How to Apply for NEET UG 2026 — Step-by-Step

The application process is entirely online. Follow these steps carefully to avoid rejection or errors:

01
Go to Official Website

Visit nta.ac.in or directly open neet.ntaonline.in. Never apply through third-party websites or agents — scam links are common.

02
New Candidate Registration

Click "New Candidate Register Here." Enter your name (exactly as on Class 10 certificate), valid mobile number, and email. Save your Application Number and Password immediately.

03
Fill the Application Form

Enter personal details, Class 10 & 12 details, medium of paper, and choose up to 4 exam centre cities. Double-check spelling of your name and date of birth — errors here cause major problems at counselling.

04
Upload Documents

You'll need: recent passport photo (white background, JPG, 10–200 KB), signature (JPG, 4–30 KB), and left/right thumb impressions. Category certificate if applicable. Ensure photos are clear — blurry uploads are a common rejection reason.

05
Pay the Application Fee

Fee payment via Net Banking, Debit/Credit Card, or UPI. Note: Fee is non-refundable. Keep the payment transaction ID saved. After payment, always wait for the confirmation SMS/email before closing the browser.

06
Download Confirmation Page

After successful payment, download and print the confirmation page. This is your proof of registration. Without it, you cannot raise any grievance with NTA later.

Important: J&K Students — AIQ & State Quota

Students from Jammu & Kashmir have dual eligibility under NEET UG counselling:

All India Quota (AIQ): 15% of seats in government medical colleges across India are reserved under AIQ. J&K students are eligible to participate. AIQ counselling is done by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) at mcc.nic.in.
State Quota (85%): The remaining 85% of government seats and 100% of private/deemed college seats are filled through state counselling in J&K, managed by JKBOPEE (J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examinations).

While filling the application, carefully select your domicile state as Jammu & Kashmir and fill in your residency details correctly. Errors here can disqualify you from state quota seats during counselling.

60-Day Preparation Strategy (With Registration Open Now)

You have roughly 60 days from today to the exam. Here is how to use them:

🧬
Biology (360 marks)
Biology contributes 50% of total marks. Read NCERT line-by-line — every word matters in NEET. Focus on diagrams, assertion-reason questions, and ecology. Revise Class 11 and 12 equally. Target: 300+ in Biology.
⚗️
Chemistry (180 marks)
Chemistry is the most scoring section if prepared well. For Physical Chemistry: Mole Concept, Electrochemistry, Thermodynamics (numericals). For Organic: Name Reactions, Biomolecules, Polymers. For Inorganic: NCERT is sufficient.
Physics (180 marks)
Focus on high-yield chapters: Mechanics, Modern Physics, Current Electricity, Optics. Solve at least 30 PYQs per chapter. Physics requires conceptual clarity — don't memorise formulas without understanding.
📋
Mock Tests & PYQs
Take one full-length mock every Sunday (3 hrs 20 min). Spend Monday analysing mistakes. Practice NEET PYQs from 2019–2025 — patterns repeat. Track your weak areas in a notebook and revisit them every week.

Common Registration Mistakes to Avoid

Name Mismatch: Your name on the application must exactly match Class 10 board certificate. Even a spelling difference can cause problems at the exam hall.
Last-Minute Payment: Server overload is extremely common on the last day. Complete payment at least 3 days before the deadline (by 5 March 2026).
Wrong Category: General students must not select OBC/SC/ST. If caught, your candidacy can be cancelled at counselling stage — sometimes after you've already passed the exam.
Blurry Photo: A common reason for application rejection. Use a clear, recent, white-background photo. The face should be clearly visible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I appear in NEET UG 2026 if I am currently in Class 12?
Yes. Students appearing in Class 12 (2026 board exams) are fully eligible to apply and appear in NEET UG 2026. You only need to submit your Class 12 passing certificate at the time of counselling if you qualify.
Q: Is there an age limit for NEET UG 2026?
There is no upper age limit as per the Supreme Court's ruling. However, you must be at least 17 years old on or before 31 December 2026 to be eligible.
Q: Can J&K students apply under the 15% AIQ?
Yes. J&K students are eligible for the 15% All India Quota. AIQ counselling is conducted by MCC (mcc.nic.in). However, make sure your domicile details are filled correctly in the application form.
Q: What happens if I miss the 8 March 2026 deadline?
Unfortunately, no late applications are accepted under any circumstances. Missing the deadline means you will have to wait for NEET UG 2027 to appear. NTA does not make exceptions.
Q: How many times can I attempt NEET UG?
There is no restriction on the number of attempts. You can appear every year as long as you meet the eligibility criteria (age and qualification).
